Privacy: private by design
Private by design. We collect as little as possible, and we explain exactly what, why and for how long. We do not claim to be “100% confidential” — no website can honestly promise that — so here are the facts instead.
No account, no name
You never need an account, a name or an email address to use anything on dopamine.co.uk.
What stays on your device
The tools, quiz, Ask, “Why do I keep doing this?”, “Talk it through” and the micro-experiments all run in your browser. What you type or choose is not sent to us. A few things are saved in your browser’s local storage so the site works as you expect:
- your cookie choice;
- your preferred reading depth (30 seconds / explain / science);
- micro-experiment results and notes, only if you press “Save privately”.
You can delete these at any time with the “Delete all my saved results” button on the experiments page or by clearing your browser data. We cannot see them, so we cannot delete them for you — or read them.
Analytics — only if you agree
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. Until you accept, analytics runs in a cookieless “consent denied” mode. Event-level analytics data is kept for two months. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share data for advertising.
Is anything used to train AI?
No. We do not run any chatbot on this site, and nothing you enter is collected, so nothing can be used to train AI models.
Can humans see what I enter?
No — because it never leaves your device.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to keep the site secure and working. These are kept for a short period by the host and are not used to identify visitors.
Safety events
Because we don’t collect what you type, we cannot see if someone is in crisis and cannot contact anyone. If you need urgent help, please use the services on our urgent help page.
Sensitive health information
We do not ask for, or collect, health information. If we ever introduce a feature that needs it (for example an email newsletter or a saved account), we will ask for your explicit consent first and update this page before launch.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct and delete personal data we hold about you. Because we hold almost none, most requests will have nothing to return. The operator’s contact details for data protection requests are being set up and will be published here.
